hi guys,

could anyone offer their opinions on whether i should get a sony tripod (VCTR100) vs a Cobra (CT-200) one, both are £17.99 and its to go with my Canon Powershot Pro1 for those long exposure shots ;)

does one have a lot more quality for the cash or anything?

the alternative was a Hama and that was 12 pound summat?

To be honest I wouldn't skimp too much on the tripod, otherwise you may end up with something plastic and flimsy, you'd be suprised how much even the slightest breeze can alter it! Can your budget stretch a bit further?

^^^^ What he said, When I first started getting into photography I bought myself a cheap tripod from argos for £29.99. It's a hama, not sure on the model, but I'm already hating it as it creaks and sways in the slightest breeze, it doesn't feel stable at all unless it's on a perfectly flat surface.

Need a new one :(

Have a look for a *WT3570 super special Tripod, It's only £10.99 but has very good reviews.

*I could tell you where to get it but the mods would have to kill me

That one you mentioned appears to be a differently branded Hama Star 63. I've got one, it's very very good for the money it costs. It's not as sturdy as I'd like though.

I've just ordered a Manfrotto Modo Maxi 785b for just under £40 - I don't think it's going to be mega stable, as it's so light, but I've bought it because I travel by motorbike and I need one that'll fit in my luggage so I'm really limited! Hopefully it'll be as stable as the Hama at least, I can deal with that.
