hey guys just sold my R3E and also my i7 950 and ram, put £100 to it and bought a asrock extreme 4 with 2600k and 8 GB corsair vengence.... hadn't planned to but had a decent offer for my board which I took, anyway im not sure what to do about the ram? do I keep the 2000mhz dominator 6 GB from my 950 system or do I go with the vengence 8 GB kit for sandybridge, I have already bought the vengence so I have both and will be building over the weekend, does sandybridge need ram that runs at 1.5v? is that what all the fuss was about when it was first released and needed a recall?

anyway I think I have done OK with this trade off, I get to overclock the crap out of a 2600k plus the z68 sata controllers wont bottleneck my m4 ssd which the marvell controller on my old board did....

is it just a case of changing the multi on these chips to overclock them and leave the bclk alone? somebody also said that the ram speeds over 1600 mhz offer little improvement.....is this the case?

pretty much. You'll see maybe some bench improvements, but not much in other ways. leave bclk at 100mhz.

Sandy ram best run at 1.5V, although it depends on the ram. Should run at 1.5V, 1600 mhz.

The fuss was about borked CougarPoint controllers. The intel controller would degrade over time. It's all fixed now. That's why you see B3 revision boards with the fixed controller.
