I have been asked to spec up an upgrade for my Nephew's pc as the mobo has expired (confirmed by myself) and so will replace the cpu/board/ram and he will flog off the existing cpu & ram to help keep the net cost down as the remit is keep the cost to a minimum (and not buy second hand!)! He has a gtx460 768mb and games @ 1280x720 ... rig is currently:

E5200 (@3.2 GHz)
Gigabyte P31
3GB DDR2 ram

The following should see him through I reckon - the difference in cost for getting an intel i5 2300 system (minimum I would recommend if he had a job!) is £50 and a game but it aint my money so that £50 can buy 2 additional games for him to play.

AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 3.60Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail with FREE Deus Ex PC Game £74.99 (£89.99)

Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard £29.99(£35.99)

OcUK Value 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low-Voltage Dual Channel Kit £19.99(£23.99)

Sub Total :
£124.97 + VAT

Just another idea, not actually much between the i3 2100 and the FX 4100 in terms of gaming performance.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-2100 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £91.99
1 x MSI H61M-P31-G3 Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £35.99
1 x OcUK Value 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low-Voltage Dual Channel Kit £23.99
Total : £151.97 (includes shipping : FREE).

Worth considering as the 2100 will use less juice and give a decent upgrade path later on ... should add that overclocking is not a consideration either.
