after upgradeing my machine to a q6600/p5q im now upgradeing my wifes machine, currantly a p4 3Ghz northwood on agp. im going for a c2d 2180 on a gigabyte p31 ds3L so its nice and cheap.

now the problem is she currantly has a 6600gt agp card, and of course she will be needing a pcie card, her monitor is a 19" lcd so its 1280x1024 max res.

i was thinking maybe one of these a steal for only £58.74
Asus GeForce 8800 GS 384MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

or maybe one of these for the same £58.74
HIS ATI Radeon HD 3850 Pro 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

or maybe just get a cheap nv8500gt so its still faster than the currant 6600gt but nice and cheap.

now of course the gpu market is in flux at the moment with prices dropping all over the place. do you think that theres likely to be a better deal than one of the above in the next week or so or is the 8800gs just too good a price to miss ?

the 8800gs is a cracking price for the card.

However, if you are okay with 2nd hand, 8800GTS 640mb can be had for under £50 now and 8800GT for £60-£70.

Even 8800GTX are only £70-£80.

Second hand will give you a far better card for the money. Especially the 640 for only £50. A very nice price for a card that is only a bit behind the top end 8800 cards
