Hello all. I trust thee are well.

I am running a E2160 with an Ati 2600 (I think) graphics card and 4 gig of RAM.

The processor struggles with 1080p movies so I need an upgrade, and if at the same time I can start playing games on my PC that would be good.

What processors could I stick in the motherboard that takes my current processor? I'm thinking keep the RAM, stick in a CPU and GFX card and away I go.

It'll be half HTPC, half games machine, courtesy of a long HDMI cable.

Cheers. :)

would need to know what the motherboard was.

if the mobo will handle it and your willing to go for used, check the members market for a q6600, usually around the £80/85 mark.

have you tried overclocking the 2160 to see if that helps with playback ?

Yeah, I've tried OC'ing to 2.5ghz and it does work, but occassionally struggles at that speed. I did install Core AVC which has largely removed the problem, but if I can upgrade on the cheap and get some gaming in too, that would be cool.

Motherboard is a Gigabyte. I was hoping by stating the CPU people might know what it could handle, but I'll try and find out the model.
