cheap way to get more, better quality, channels

Hi guys,

Have recently got a 40" HD TV and am a little disappointed with the number of HD channels and the general quality of some of the SD channels. My mate has virgin and, for example, Dave looks much better on his than it does on my freeview. Can i just pick up a 2nd hand virgin box and plug it in?

i have a virgin wall box in the front room, so if i got a second hand virgin HD box and plugged it in would i get the HD channels?

it wouldn't be multi-room, there's a wall-box in the front room and one upstairs. the one upstairs is used for the net so just wanted to buy a 2nd hand box and plug it in; no joy no?
