Cheap Webhosting

I have used godaddy for my website for ages and I missed a payment and they took it away :(

I was going to buy it again from them for £40.95GBP for a whole year. Is that reasonable? Is there anywhere cheaper that can sell me a .co.uk and a cheap hosting for any cheaper?

If you want a reliable, helpful host you're going to be paying at least £3 a month. I would personally never use Go Daddy or 123-reg for my hosting. Check webhostingtalk forums. There's quite a few reliable hosts around such as Vidahost.

No problem. :)

Btw, if you go for the starter package rather than the basic one and pay for two years, you get a year for free, so you're effectively paying less than £18 a year (with the voucher) for a lot more space and bandwidth. Well worth it for a few more pence over the basic package.
 
i hope i am not "profiteering" but if you want, i can create a user on my webspace and charge you a bit less than what everyone else is charging you.. you would get 200GB bandwidth/web space, 20 mysql db. PHP, PErl, cgi etc etc...
 
I too can recomend vidahost, very good customer service. I use them just for reliable (and fast) picture hosting at the moment but want to expand soon.

I have seen 'mysql' options on hosting sites before. Is it like having a database on the site? If so, what does the number relate to - the amount of connections at one time?

It should relate to the amount of schemas you are able to create, they call them databases in mysql.

It shouldn't refer to how many connections you can have at any one time, though thats an interesting question itself.

Is that offer open to a local parish group who are looking for somewhere to host a 1 or 2 page web site?
 
I have recently taken the advice of others on here and gone with vidahost and I have to say their customer service is exceptional.
I am a complete novice and they practically held my hand, brilliant service. :D

Yeah, they're fantastic for support. I've had tickets answered before I get the acknowledgement emails before. :D They seem like they'd help you with anything as well.

Superb value as well with the 3 years for 2 and the 10% off.
