Cheap, wide, monitor for work

This is going to be a vague question, sorry. I don't know enough to know what I want, if you see what I mean.

My work supplies a laptop and a desk monitor - the latter being a paltry 21".

I do a lot with Excel and the like, so a bigger, wider screen would be beneficial. But I don't think my employer would have any interest in coughing up for one. Because of this, I've always discounted the idea and gone on with what I have.

But a colleague was just raving about getting an (albeit old, ex display) a 32" extra wide HP display for £120! I reckon if I could get something which will make a large difference for a cost of as little as ~£100, I might be willing to dip a hand in my own pocket.

So, I guess I'm asking for recommendations on what can be bought cheap if your requirement is a decently large monitor, but there's no need for good response rates and the like which I'd care about if it was for gaming.

Thanks in advance for any help in either framing the question better, or suggesting a model to aim for!

I joined the company 5 years ago, and it's the brand new Dell monitor that was provided at the time, along with the Dell laptop.

Only got the 5 year old laptop replaced last month. And that was only because our company has been bought by another and they've been slowly updating us to the new company's stuff. Apparently monitor doesn't count for that though. :)

Both the laptop screen and the monitor (I use both) are running at 1920x1080 currently.
