Hey guys,

Looking to get a new Windows tablet that can be used on the go etc. Don't want to spend too much, preferably less than £200. Will be used mainly for watching films, browsing the web etc.

What are some good suggestions?

Thanks! :)

Does it need to be a Windows tablet?

IE11 isn't going to be easy to use on a 7/8" tablet and Edge isn't very finger friendly either and doesn't have much plugin support (thing may have improved since I last used it).

For movies one of the Android players (MX, Archos) with codes will probably perform better than the Windows 10 video app (Films and TV) does it support 3rd party codecs? If using MPC-HC etc are they easy to use on a small tablet?

I'd suggest an Android tablet. Install Plex server, add your content to the Plex library and let it sync (transcode if needed) content to your Plex client.

Dell venue 8 pro?

That's certainly an option, will look into it a bit more.

I think the thing I like about the Windows tablets is that I can simply plug in a USB hub and use it as a laptop at home etc when needed.

In terms of Edge it has performed very well when I have used it. The new player that Microsoft has for movies has also managed to play everything that I've had to throw at it.

Plex is something I am looking at and I am intending on having a server for other device anyway. I just think compared to Android and Apple a Microsoft tablet will give me more options.

Thanks guys :)

Got one -quite like it, plays everything through Plex fine.
Love the hinge, so can alter the angle it sits at to almost any angle without it falling over
I've even installed VS 2015 to do a bit of work when away from my desk. As with all Windows tablets, though, a severe lack of disk space!
