My friends looking to replace his 5.1 Logitech PC speakers, with a hi fi amp, and some speakers, to give better sound.

On the phone he said something about one amp he'd found being 500, but for now Im looking at trying to keep the budget under 300.
He just needs an amp, and some speaker recommendations, perhaps from <well known auction site>.

Anyone got any make/model recommendations to get a decent hi-fi amp and speakers setup, preferably -£300.

Cheers.

try a auction, you can get a real good used amp for cheap prices, 40 quid. and also you can find a good pair of speakers such as mission m71 for like 50 quid
is it really a competitor, ive seen it used a lot on the forums?

might wanna remove that website name mate, its a competitor.

if hes looking at second hand then he should be able to get some pretty good stuff.

take a look at the likes of cyrus, arcam, rotel, nad and some of the sony ES stuff for amps. for £150 you will be able to pick up a great little amp

speaker wise, £150 will buy you a nice set of quality second hand bookshelves, from the likes of B&W or mission, you could even pick up a new set for that price, wharfdale 9.1, the new mordaunt short or Qacoustic's 1010 come highly reccomended.
