I was talking to a guy at Virgin Media yesterday and he mentioned the saynoto0870 website. Its somethng where you can get cheaper 0845 and the like calls.

I remember reading somewhere that you can dial something before you dial the 0845 number and it puts you through a lot cheaper.

Theres tons of info on the net about things like this but i wanted 1st hand reliable evidence before i try it out.

Anyone use this service?

BTW Im not on a phone line i use the old NTL cable phone thingy.

Theres a website which lists the local numbers which are linked to 0845 numbers, can't remember it just google.

KaHn

OcUK use these types of numbers to get some kick back, so they will lock it.

Well now you've pointed it out to everyone they will :p

There's nothing particularly fancy about the site so you don't need to prefix the numbers with anything, it just gives you the local numbers that the 0870/0871/0845 etc. numbers go through to so you can take advantage of any free/cheap local/national minutes you may have, plus it's waaay cheaper to call local numbers on mobiles instead of 0870.

saynoto0870 is great. It just providers, where known, the geographic numbers for the 0870 providers, after all, every 0870 number goes to a normal landline somewhere.

I'm with tiscali on their 'all landline calls are free' plan, so if I can find out the proper geograpic number, instead of being loads/minute, it's free instead :D

So going by that site if i wanted to call Lloyds bank customer services i would phone 0191 5119200? (Could someone check im doing it right)

Go on saynoto0870 website and type in the number you need to dial. It will find a local rate alternative in most cases

what you do it, pickup your phones handset. Then looking at the numbers on the phone, press them in the order you have written down.. i.e. 0, 1, 9, 1 etc .. then after a few seconds or so you should hear ringing (place the phone towards your ear). Speak when someone speaks to you...

Do you really want to call a bank based on a number on an unofficial website and no doubt give the answers to your security questions?

I think lloyds can be phoned cheaply on 01733 347 007

thats the same as their 0845 number. ive used it myself

do 0845 numbers cost that much?

not an obscene amount, but the trouble with a lot of call centres is you get stuck on hold for ages. or if its some kind of technical support line that people use they spend about 30 minutes telling you crap you already know.
