Dropbox is fantastic and I'd love to have synchronised access to my files when/wherever necessary (including my work pc, home pc and phone). I'd need their 100GB package to hold all of my files, but wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives around?

Spanks.

A bit off topic I know, but is there a free service that does the same as dropbox but for music instead?

Not for a whole collection but just for a few albums I like on my phone.

mypcbackup.com

It's not like I work there or anything -_-

brb just uploading 3954 tb worth of data to see just how truly unlimited that service is...

In this day and age advertising something as unlimited which is clearly not is a huge mistake imo.

Plays audio when I load the page without me asking. Ctrl W me thinks.

In answer to the OP, MS offer 25gb free via there Skydrive/LiveMesh service. But I found it a pain to use, so went back to dropbox.

Box.net will give you a 50gb account for free if you own a HP touchpad, apparently there is some sort of work around - but not sure.

Max 2Mb file size on that "unlimited" service. Pretty limited really.

Oh and a max of 15Mb backed up. Apart from that, its unlimited.

Edit *** Oh, its only unlimited when you've paid for it...sorry my bad, thought it was unlimited and supported by advertising or something..

A new startup called http://zovo.co/

I've used their client and started backing up all my laptop files but on my less than 2Mb line was taking forever. If you had been an initial subscriber you would have got unlimited storage forever, but now I think its paid. Does have a mobile client, and works with windows and mac as well as an web based system.

the features of this look very impressive

might give it a try

not sure if anyone has seen this offering they charge per year rather than per month.

I went on a training day for some of there other products a few months back and was given a 50Gb account access just for attending lol It's really good.

Box.net doesn't work like DropBox. The 50GB for free was nice but without the sync features I'm not using it much. I use DropBox daily though.

That looks quite good actually, seems very similar to dropbox and the way that works.

I think you have to have a business account to have the sync app and features.

when they say the data is encrypted does that mean:

a) they cant see it themselves

b) if it were stolen, no one else could see your data ?
