Cheaper G80 when R600 comes out?

I was just wondering, whether its worth the wait in terms of prices cuts on the 8800 as soon as ATI launches its competitor. I don´t care which one might be more powerful, since the 8800 gtx already is more than anyone really needs, although the performance difference of course can have an impact on prices.

But do you think its worth the wait? Will the 8800, for example, become lets say 15% cheaper if the R600 is better (well if it is better, it wont be by much imho)?

well, gtx's are already falling in price gradually. i think the reality is somewhat closer to gtx's falling slightly and r600's being released at £400+

I'm looking to change my 7800GT February/March this year, does anyone know if the R600 will be released or near to being released at that time?

Not much point getting an 8800GTS for £300 when 2 weeks later they have knocked £50 off!!

ATI Cards are generally priced more competitevly than their NVIDIA counterparts. So I'd tend to expect the ATI offering to be of similar price to the G80 even if they do drop the prices slightly

Truth is nobody knows how much R600 will be.

GTX have dropped already.I doubt they will drop anymore TBH.

Yeah G80's are already cheap prices, the refresher may push em down a bit more, and the arrival of R600, but as said above, no one knows how much R600 is going to be yet.

R600 is now looking like an early March launch - it should be worth waiting for and I doubt they'll delay it much beyond that - it's already rediculously late!

Gibbo, people are holding off getting 8800s on the off chance that the R600 will be out in the next few weeks - if you could tell us which month you are expecting to sell them then at the very least there could be some more 8800 sales in it for OCuk!

Wonder if this here which id heard a few weeks ago has anything to do with it, as i heard March back then, but that was due to a problem with the board so i heard, nothing about a re-spin, and now the inkwell seems to think March as well, i know its the inkwell, but still i heard March, and now these have heard March as well, gets you wondering.

Mind you i did say in me thread 'You heard it here first'.
