Here's a fun one. If you wanted to do a build using old components but looking for the best of the old what would you go for?

We're talking a build from the ground up, case included and a CPU cooler that isn't stock.

Just interested to see what people would build :)

It would be down to what the PC is used for and budget.

Intel:
E8xxx/Q6600 CPU (£30~£50) with a Asus P5Q Pro/Deluxe 775 motherboard (£30~£45) and 4GB of DDR2 ram (£35~£40).

or

AMD:
Phenom II X3 720BE/Phenom II X4 955BE (£50~£65) with a 7xx/8xx chipset (£30~£50) AM3 motherboard and 4GB DDR3 ram (£20~£25)

But to be honest, if I have to spend the budget as above and use 2nd hand parts, I would rather pay the extra and do a new budget build around the i3 2100 (£80~£90), a H61/H67 motherboard (£40~£60) and 4GB DDR3 ram (£20~£25) for the superior gaming performance, half the power consumption and lower temp under load comparing to the Quad cores above.

Graphic card:
9800GT 512MB (£35) or 5770 1GB (£45~£50) or 5850 1GB (£80~£90).

CPU cooler I would get new, such as the Gelid Tranquillo Rev.2...which can be reusable on other sockets.
