Cheapest/best way to host MS SQL database online

So, we have a MS SQL database my friend has made for us and we wanted to host it on our webspace but have been told we would need windows hosting as it's MS, this is really expensive considering the amount of queries is going to be very minimal. Therefore we are looking for other ways to do this, maybe even host it on my home PC and leave it up and running on a static IP then the website connects to it that way?

We are not sure and was sure someone on OcUK would know or point us in the right direction!

I don't understand where you've been looking if you think Windows hosting with MSSQL support is really expensive....

Why endure the slowdown of hosting it away from your current server when you can almost certainly convert it to MySQL/whatever you have on your current system?

Thanks everyone, the places I was looking at (being a n00b) were asking £50+ a month which is a bit steep.

My friend who does the Ms SQL stuff has had a look at converting it but found everything to be CLI rather than an easy up to date GUI. Any suggestions on tools etc to do a nice conversion?
