Cheapest Car Insurance?

I usually use Swiftcover because it is an internet only car insurance provider, and therefore has always been the cheapest quote for me when I have made enquiries. My insurance is up for renewal shortly, does anyone know of another provider that might beat these guys or are they always cheapest? I can't phone them up and ask for a discount because they are internet only.

Thanks

You literally just have to go on comparison sites and try your luck once you get the renewal quote. The 'cheapest' isn't always the best policy, as other things might be bundled in with different policies, like breakdown cover, or legal cover, which is actually better value. I also read the reviews on any companies I am interested in,as they can be a bit of an eye opener! Certainly don't feel like you should have any loyalty towards the company...

If they were always the cheapest no one would shop around they would just use them.

You can usually email them regarding your renewal or if you cancel your renewal they might phone you to ask why then give you a better quote.

Try all the comparison sites, try the insurers which don't list on comparison sites (i.e Direct Line) and then go from there.

I did all this a couple of months ago, still couldn't beat my renewal quote with Axa. Still phoned them and gave them "I've found a cheaper quote elsewhere" and got some more knocked off :p

Personally Direct Line are far cheaper than Swiftcover and offer far better benefits on the policy, but what is cheapest for me will not be cheapest for you.

I usually try around 3-5 online companies. Fill in the details, get the quotes and go with the cheapest.

For me personally DirectLine are always one of the more expensive ones.

You'll always have to shop around for the cheapest, get your renewal quote through from the current insurer than use price comparisons and see what it comes in at and then get them to beat or match it.

i try the 3-4 top known comparison sites. i don't bother checking all the different companies that aren't on the comparison sites as it uses the same amount of time but your only getting 1 quote. spend 15 mins and get 200 quotes or spend 15 mins and get 1 quote? so i never bother checking directly.

Just gotta play the game, get quotes from the usual suspects, find the cheapest then ring up your current insurers and give them an opportunity to match it, if they cant then follow through and leave.

that is the worst way to do it.

because you get quidco for using comparison sites then either going through the comparison site or direct.

so unless they can beat it by at least the quidco cashback then your still overpaying

Quidco or Topcashback is not guaranteed though, can take ages to pay out, and from past experience the quote generated when going through these sources sometimes tends to be higher than if you had gone direct.

I'm playing the insurance game at the moment, so far Confused has been the cheapest. Have tried comparethemarket, confused, topcashback and just now Direct line. You could spend an entire week comparing!

Depends a lot on the kind of car as well. For run of the mill stuff comparison sites are probably best. For sport/performance cars I usually find specialist brokers are best (and also have the better terms).

Thanks guys. I used a comparison site and found esure was the cheapest in the end, quite a lot cheaper than Swiftcover this time.
Esure are the cheapest for everyone on compare sites it's the only way they get business. Every year I run quotes Esure, Go skippy and Sheilas Wheels come out far cheaper than everyone else. There is always a reason why.
Go and look on review centre and other sites and you will see page after page of 1 star reviews with nothing but people slating them.
I paid £200 extra and went with A reputable company Aviva.
