I'm looking at buying a TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A 4k monitor 144hz.

Before buying all the hardware to suit, I fancy trying the 4080 tier of GeForce now having had a good experience in the past and the kit for a 4k pc costing a lot of money.

The i/o of the monitor has:

DisplayPort 1.4 DSC x 1
HDMI(v2.1) x 2
HDMI(v2.0) x 2

From what I've read hdmi 2.1 is RTX 3000 series onwards and the and 6800 series and onwards, but with the cost of those cards it doesn't really make sense to buy such a card to then use cloud gaming on.

So it looks like the best route would be a gpu which has DP 1.4 with DSC, cheap as possible, what would anyone suggest? :)

My other option would be something like a NuC with a thunderbolt 4 port and use a thunderbolt to hdmi 2.1 adapter?

All suggestions welcome :D

Radeon 6500XT has HDMI 2.1, as does Geforce 3050. Intel Arc A380 has Displayport 2.0 DSC

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £480.96 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Spec sheet for 6500XT as OcUK's link doesn't mention HDMI version

Just incase anyone visits this thread to do the same.

I ended up just ditching the 5700g build, to upgrade to a b650 setup with a 7600, which has onboard graphics I/O which supports 144hz @4k 10bit.

Net cost wasn't much more and saves buying a dog rough gpu to do something so simple, plus when 4k capable gpus are more affordable I will be able to drop straight in with little to no bottleneck now i'm on AM5 :)

What cheap used GPU would do 4k at 100hz for watching movies only?

Maybe a new GeForce GT 1030 2GB GDDR5, that seems to be around £45
