I work in a PC repairs shop, and I am very unfamiliar with Mac hardware and the OS and we do occasionally have people come in and ask for it.

So looking for something that i can get used cheap, not too big, and is quick enough to use for diagnosing/or copying/backing up data etc.

Don't mind laptop, or a desktop which works with standard PC screens.

thanks.

Well I'm still looking into it and haven't set my self a budget because i have no idea where to start.

I want to be able to run the latest OS smoothly. At least 1gb of ram. .

The Powermac G4 sounds like a good option actually.

Beware that the next version of OS X (10.6) is due out later this year and the versions released to beta testers have required Intel processors.

Well a G4 will run 10.5 but this year 10.6 will be coming out and rumors think it won't be supported.

Looking at £300/400 for a Core Duo Mac Mini which I *think* you can upgrade to C2D, but you will have to ask someone else on that one as I only really get into Mac Pro/Macbook Pro stuff.

Depends if you want to run 10.6 or not! Although as a business it probably would be prudent to run the latest and hence a Core 2 Duo machine will be the best best.

Look on ebay for Mac Mini, upgrade the ram and your sorted. Probs £300-400 IIRC.
