Can someone help spec me a new pc.

basically need it for fast downloading/high storage (500gb essential) and a bit of photoshopping and slight gaming.

Ideally dont want to pay around £250, but can stretch to £400 if needs be.

Already have monitor, keyboard, mouse.

Also I will not be overclocking.

Cheers

This is a bit over your ideal but considering the parts you need I don't think it is unreasonable considering the capabilities of the system. :)

superb cheers for that

I actually spec'd myself more or less the same system but I thought I wont post that I'd see what you more knowledgable folks could come up with.

I spec'd it with a P35 mobo for upgradability and the sonata 2 case.

What would be the performance differences between that mobo and the GA-P35C-DS3R be for my needs, just read the specs of both and its kinda over my head what they mean lol :D

Also what would the performance differences be with that CPU and say a 2ghz AMD 4000 ? Not quite sure what ghz is, is that how quickly the cpu reads the data form the HDD or have am I just completely stupid.

1 last question then I'll shut up, the asrock mobo you put supports the Q6600 doesn't it?

Again cheers for your help

I'd go with the P35 motherboard if you can afford it, the ASRock is there because it is the cheapest although if overclocking doesn't matter it should be fine. However it only supports quad-core that uses a 1066mhz FSB which rules out Penryn etc although the Q6600 should work.

There should be a big jump from an AMD 4000 but that will mainly be when multitasking since it has dual core, otherwise you might not notice quite so much of a difference. Pure ghz speed means relatively little though. :)

It might be worth trying to source most of the parts from the members market, b grade stock or somewhere else that might sell second hand stuff.

Could reduce costs by a lot and maybe just buy a new hard drive.
