Hi, working on a really tight budget here - looking for a) the cheapest board for stock performances

and b) the cheapest board for moderate overclocks

chip in question is things like
Intel Celeron E1200 1.6Ghz (looking for ~2ghz)
And regular intel E2140 (looking for 2ghz again)

absolute cheapest version possible, thanks guys :)

Just about any of the budget boards will get you 2ghz on those chips. I have an ASrock Dual4VSTA with a e2160, happily chugging along at 2.67

Rather post your budget (30/40/50 quid?)

ok my fault for putting 30 as an option.

I would go for this one : gigabyte 965p b-grade

A decent (but older) board. Will defnitely give you more than 2GHz on the e2140.

B-Grade means it was a return, or shop soiled. It should be covered with full warranty etc though, but check with OCUK before buying.

Look through the b-grade section, there are some other boards there sub 30 quid, but I dont know much about them (except the asrock dual4vsta which is a decentish board, but it has limitations as its a hybrid ddr/ddr2 and agp/pci-e board.

B-grade is ok if you want to take a chance. The board should be working but it may not come with any accessories, I/O shield, manual or the original box.

If you want new then the Gigabyte P31 DS3L is a steal at £45. I got a E2180 to 3.6Ghz with one. Do not be tempted by the MSI P31 Neo F as it is a pile of poo.
