Cheapest possible board due to RMA

Well that sorts that out.

When I am working on a board out of a case I have a set of switches and LED's to use as if it was plugged into a case.

What if the case switch is at fault ?
Never heard of it though.

Code:
PC MOTHERBOARD QUICK TESTING SWITCH LEAD SET KIT

search ebay for the above and that's what I have.

Thanks I'll look at those, that's the only thing untested. Cool the eBay seller for those switches is marlins, I can go to town and buy a switch

I don't mind ocuk cheapos provided it can run league of legends with out issues, how much are celrons these days and why exactly are they Good for doing bios updates. God I hate typing on phone.....

The Celeron being the lowest of the low CPU. It will go into any board even if the BIOS version is the first one made. Where as the high end CPU's will require a the latest BIOS version.

This allows you to update the BIOS of a board and sling in the best CPU.

Handy to buy and keep hold of. If your messing with lots of boards.

Some new boards do come with the latest BIOS.

This is one of the reasons I favour the higher end Asus boards.

You do not need a lower end CPU to flash the BIOS. They have a special BIOS Flashback system.
As long as the board as power you can update the BIOS straight off a USB stick.
As long as the USB is formatted correctly and the BIOS file is named correctly too.

What does come in handy. A second PC. An old one or cheap n nasty one. Owt that works if only to get on line with.

I just spent £81 for you on ebay.

I got you an Asus board, Celeron CPU and 1 stick of DDR3 1600 RAM.

This gets you a second PC to mess with. Lets you swap bits around to find out where any problems lay.

Not taken into account of any case or PSU or keyboard n mouse. I don't know if you have bits like this laying around doing nowt.

Don't know why but I do ?

Will keep my eye on this thread.

I wish you good luck and hope you get sorted very soon.

Wish I could be of more help.

I've just got back from maplins got the switch will see how that goes.

My son has my old pc and I used his psu but that's as much as I could use, his sockets and stuff are too old for my parts unfortunately

Tested with test switch, failed, bought a mobo while getting the switch, will test and update.

Ahh well. Worth a shot I recon. Bet the switches were not dear, will come in handy though, use mine all the time.

What board did you buy, and can I be cheeky and ask how much ?

I got the Asus H81M-PLUS,£50 and the bag full of switches for £5 :)

Installed defo not the cpu so far cause new mobo in the system booted 1st time with no loop . just installing windows as we speak.

That's the only board they sell in shop lol, was wanting one for £32 but they only do those online....

The guy in the shop reckoned it sounded like a transistor has blown and it's basicly taking 3 boots to fill up with juice so to speak, but dunno that's just his opinion.

Well now you know it is definitely the board.

Good job mate.

£50 hey. Not the end of the world. When your board comes back new or mended ? Keep your new H81 board all boxed up and safe. You never you when it will come in handy.

Buy some second hand or cheap bits and build up a plaything for your sen.

Thanks for the advice, I bought the parts in this thread as an upgrade to my aging system but it's done nothing but give me a headache, every time I've gone for top end boards I've had an issue.

I'll phone ocuk up in the morning and start the RMA

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

I have always like Asus boards and when I am asked to build a system or recommend parts I always seem to go for Asus.

I doubt your H81 will give you trouble.

I am actually going backwards in my next build. Just bought a board I always fancied, Abit IP35 Pro LGA 775. Got it for roughly £34. I'll be happy as pig in, you know what when it comes.

Good luck get your board replaced or mended.

Ask for a full money refund and buy an Asus.
YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Z97 Pro Gamer Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £103.99
Total : £113.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

is that board better than the one ive got?(the asus does look tasty)

This H81 is solid as a rock,my only issues at the moment are being unable to see my slave drive(its showing as an MBR in disk management for some reason, but its not showing in my computer)but i am working to find out what im doign wrong lol

Better than your Gigabyte ?
Urrr can not say. But I just prefer Asus.
I just bult a gaming rig for my sons mate with one of these. He loves it, all he needs is a top end GPU and he is sorted.

I love the look of Asus boards. Never had one bit of bother with them. Their site is great and support is long lasting.

If you do get offered a refund, there is what I would buy.

You say your "slave" drive is not working. Not heard that for a while.
What size is this here driver ?
Over 3 TB and it would have to be set to GPT and not MBR.
Not sure but I think if the OS drive is set to MBR it still might recognise the GTP drive.

As a rule of thumb I always set my drives to GPT.

I dont know im kinda confused as to why its set its self to MBR,its always been my drive for dropping crap on on to its not got windows on it,its always just bee plug and play wit hthe drive so its kinda anoying lol.

Its 1TB,its showing in bios, its showing in windows under device manager and disk management

1 TB is ok set to MBR.

Sounds like it maybe some sort of driver issue ?
What OS did you load in ?

Turn of the PC, boot into the BIOS, load defaults, save and exit.
Re boot and see what happens.

Check all connections to the drive and board.
Put the OS into SATA 1 and the 1TB drive into SATA 2 and if there is an optical drive into SATA 3

windows 7,i just uninstalled the disk rebooted and it installed new drivers but its not visible,i will go to bios and do what you suggested.

I have OS in Sata 6gb 1,1TB in Sata 2 6gb,the other 2 sata slots are sata 2 dvd drive and front panel sata.
