Okay so i need a new mobo, CPU and ram. I would like a C2D setup and a mobo that supports PCI-E and AGP. The budget is £150 however, i'd like something AS CHEAP as possible. I will be doing overclocking. I will be using this rig to play games like FSX, CSS and new upcoming games like COD4.

Thanks

1 GB is okay for now

Well replace the cpu with a E4300 and get 1GB of memory then.

But if its a gaming PC, 2GB will be better than a slightly faster processor.

And with memory prices this low, its madness not to get 2GB, as it wont stay this cheap forever. (get 2GB of PC5300 for £39.99inc from another shop)

With the C2D 1.6ghz, how much can i overclock it using that board to using standard air cooling.

If your gonna be overclocking buy an aftermarket cooler, the freezer 7 pro is a cheap alternative.
Thanks for that. Do you know how much i'd be able to go to on stock cooling and how much i'd be able to goto using the freezer pro

Buy a different mobo too :p

Whilst the 4corevsta is a great board for an entrance to Core2duos, and a damn solid board all around. Its no overclocker.

Yet to see what mine can do.

Yeh there is afaik, no board that can do everything :p

If I could have bought a board with AGP/PCIe DDR1/DDR2 which overclocked aswell I'd be in dreamland.
In the end I bought this one as I just wanted a cheap system to last me over the summer until the price drops when I'll re-buy an expensive system :p

You'll definetely see a boost in things that make the most of multiple cores, single core things there probs won't be a huge difference at stock, but once you overclock the c2d that will soon change.

Also would i notice a lot going from a P4 2.8ghz overclocked at 3.04ghz, 1gb ram to a 1.6ghz C2D 1-2gb of ram?

Depends what games and what your graphics card you have?

No real point upgrading then, as your 6600 will be almost CPU limited with your current system, so you'd really gain very little in games.

Save more money and get a new GPU too.
