Cheapest quad

No good for overclocking though. You would need a high-end motherboard to get anything good.

p5kc,

this is what i have and the voltages get messed up on it, but managed to run a q6600 @ 3ghz

volts are all over the place though..

A lot of the Q6600s are able to do 3Ghz on stock volts, just slap up the FSB to 333mhz and you're away. Even the ones that don't, need very little extra. Buying one in the MM for about £100 would be good value for your money if you want a quad.

there is no D0 version (that stepping is i7)....

There's the B3 quad which is very inefficient and puts out loads of heat, so that prevents high overclocks...and there's the G0 version which runs cooler and is the one you want.

A point to note is these Q8200's dont have Intel VT enabled. So if you're planning to do any VM stuff (or use Windows XP mode in Win7) these quads arent good.
