Cheapest Quiet PSU

The older CX 400W is a better unit than the CX 430W. If you look around it is still available for around £35 delivered.

I like the price of the CX400W, but i am wondering weather it is better to get a slightly higher power unit.

Of corse its not just the performance that I am intersted in. Its the noise. Hte 350 watt PSU that came with the pc is noisy as hell.

Both of the corsairs will be barely audible.

Comes with free issue ear protectors :p

Corsair is a quality brand and used them for majority of my builds.

Only one slighty noisey was the 750 w, but I soon fixed that by a extra vent :)

I installed this horrid highpower 500w unit from PC world briefly. I thought a jet fighter was starting up. thats why I am being carful in choosing.

If you mean me, i said this.

Also forgot to mention before, the higher wattage psu you buy, the less stressed it'll be so the cooler it'll be, therefor the fan will run slower making it quieter.

Which is true, a Corsair AX1200 would be considerably quieter than a CX400 on the same system.

I cant afford that! I already shelled out for a new graphics card and I need to get wiindows 7 and a sound card yet. by the time i am done I just as well have sold my original unit and got a more expensive one.

I realise I wont get a PSU that is totally silent for my buget. But i was hoing for barely noticable twinned with reliability.

I have Corsair HX750 in my rig, best unit I've owned. Which manufacturer do make these if seasonic don't? just curious
Channel Well Technology do. If you have a peek through the vent at the back you will see green, this is green tape wrapped around the transformers, and this is a hallmark of CWT. You could also read a review on it from jonnyguru, hardwaresecrets, oc3d.net, etc.

Culumusjames, do you really need a soundcard? My advice is that unless you work with audio on a more than casual basis, or unless you are an audiophile, then the quality of onboard sound is reasonable and plenty are happy with using it, you can also pretty easily install it later if you find that you do need it. Perhaps you could make do without it for a period after buying a power supply that is adequate for your needs.

Also there are some, probably quite rare PSUs that are nearly inaudible throughout their power range. Nexus is a brand who I am aware that this is true of and from the reviews I've read they are all reliable and high quality, maybe not the best, but nothing to shy away from.

I know where you can get the Corsair CX 400 from, for £32, unfortunately I can't provide a link.

I am a big time audiophile. And I occationally like to dabble with synthesizers. I demand great sound when I listen to music. I get little out of life but my love of music. I have great speakers but mediocre sound. Ive spent time in recording studios and I know how amazing music can sound. As mp3 degrades music anyhow to get it as good as it can be you really need good sound processing and good speakers.

ps I kow I can get the cx 400 for £32. I have google :). I do not see why you can not post links. If overclockers did not want people to be able to speak freely in a forum they should not be running one. And if they want you to allways shop with them they should too try google shopping. If they are the cheapest peple will buy. If they are not the smart ones wont.

OcUK pay for these forums, they moderate these forums, why should they pay (i imagine rather a lot) for these forums just for people to link elsewhere and lose them sales!!!

It's their forums, their rules they can do what they want! If you don't like it then well, the logout button is at the top-right.

you would not have a grocery forum where you could only talk about tesco's. They chose to have a forum so they should not say its members must only mention them. Surely it is a given that a forum for computer geeks is going to involve mostly people who are well aware of how to find the cehapest online. I am not knocking them, like I say I will buy from them every time they are the cheapest. But I wont pay more for goods from them just so I can hang out in thier little forum.

Also I am drunk. So I take no responsability for what I say. But I stand by my words. Only because I would fall down if I did not.
