Quick question.

I have a network with let's say for now an unsecure network drive that runs of an IP say 192.168.1.1

If i run a long cat 5 cable from my router to another room/building. I want wifi in that room / building without users being able to access my network.

So i am thinking of just putting a router in, and using the firewall or it's settings to block access to 192.168.1.1

added pic for brownie points:

Is this the cheapest and easiest way to do it? Thanks in adv

get your self a router with a rj45 wan port and that way you can subnet it off and the only way into your network would be to take the network cable from the router and plug it in to a laptop.

or depending on your first router use a vlan to seperate it.

Hey leigh_boy, can you explain a lil more as if i was a layman (omg that made me chuckle) sigh* "subnet it off"

I dont think I can vlan to separate, the first router is ancient and not a great make/model

ok so il try draw this out for you

dsl router -----Cable------wan port of another router --- lan port -- cable---wifi point
192.168.0.1 ------------ 192.168.0.2 ----------------- 10.0.0.1------ 10.0.0.2

or there is also DD-WRT ou can put on to a wifi point and will also do the job. all depends on money and what you have avaliable to you
