I've been looking at getting a new machine and my older brother has kindly volunteered to build one for me. He says he already has the majority of components spare and that all I'll need to finish the build off is a motherboard for an Intel core i7-950 chip, a graphics card and a power supply.

I'm only going to be using it for general web browsing, email, office and occasionally watching dvds; the closest thing to a game that I might play is football manager.

I don't really want to spend too much but I have no idea what I need to look for so any suggestions as to the cheapest motherboard, graphics card and power supply that will be suitable for me would be greatly appreciated.

Come up with the below spec, you could go with a cheaper PSU though.

+1 to everything RJC suggested. that'll do you nicely. you could probably shave a tenner off the graphics card and maybe a tenner off the motherboard as well but in the long run you'd regret it - the 5770 is fantastic performance/price ratio

I would look at the nvidia 460 gfx card. It has been as cheap as £100 on offers. I know you said games aren't a priority but it is an excellent budget gfx card now. Plus the Cuda technology assists the cpu when doing certain tasks.

It's rival is the amd 5850 which is silly money compared to what it used to be a month or so back. There is nothing wrong with the 5770 suggested, personally for that lil bit extra the 460 makes sense.

Enjoy the new rig. Im sure you are aware but you qualify for free delivery......just checking ;)

id get a gtx 550Ti at £100, just inbetween the 5770(£85) and gtx 460(£120) and should be close to gtx 460 performance.
