a friend of mine is looking to me for advice on how to get everything connected up to his monitor as cheaply as possible.
he needs to connect:
- xbox 360: HD component, or HDMI out
- PC: HDMI or DVI out
to:
- monitor: VGA in
- speakers: 3.5mm jack in.
if it helps, his PC has a TV card that has an S-video input, which he is currently using to play his xbox with in SD
and he may want a second monitor for his PC, which will also have VGA in only.
his only request is to not have to unplug and re plug in a VGA cable at the back of his monitor every time he changes from xbox to PC.
if anyone has any ideas on how to do this, that would be great.
i was planning to:
- buy a VGA switch or similar so two VGA cables can be plugged into one monitor
- buy something to convert the RGB of xbox HD component to VGA
- buy something to convert the l/r audio of his xbox to 3.5mm jack
- use a DVI to VGA cable/adapter to connect his PC to the first monitor
- use a HDMI to VGA cabe for the second monitor if he wants to use it
has anyone got a better idea than this, because its getting to the point where it would be cheaper to buy a new monitor
*edit*
sorry mods, 2nd post went to wrong place
