Cheapest way to get an iPhone4

My daughter has been saving up for an iphone which i think is due to most of the rest of the family owning one.

With the arrival of the 5, the 4 has now dropped to £319 which puts her pretty much there. She's only 11 but has insisted she wants a new one in white which obviously rules out picking up a used one for cheap.

When she gets it i'll be planning on getting her a sim only deal on 3 which is only £6.90 a month for a pretty reasonable deal. I think that’s a 12 month deal which would work out about £80. Putting the whole thing at around £400 for the year.

Does anyone know of any comparable deals around which would subsidise the phone cost at a higher monthly cost which might work out cheaper as I’m struggling to find anything.

Just to add that we've already tried to talk her into getting a cheaper phone/used and keeping her money but she won't have any of it!

Cheers

Its her money so its not really bothering me, she's done well to save up so much. When i was 11 i wasted money as soon as i got it!

11 years and demanding a top end phone brand new, I'm not going to tell you how to be a parent but that seems a little off :/

Edit: Oh I see it's her money, ignore me. How does an eleven year old get that much money, clearly I was deprived as a child :p

To be fair if she saved up her money for it, she can demand a new one. I am quite impressed a 11 year old managed it to be honest. I would struggle now!

Yeah sorry that post came across as blunt and at 11 she has done well to save all that money. My pocket money got spent on spectrum magazines and sweets but that was 25 years ago, not a lot else to spend it on then.

What I was implying is that she should learnt that you don't need to buy new just for the hell of it. There are so much waste in the world these days, buying another new phone is not required when there are so many used ones out there.

I agree, most of the stuff i buy is used as i always get much better for the money, we've even tried explaining that if she went second hand she could get a 4S instead but for some reason she's stuck on a new one.

How she's saved up i've no idea. She just never seems to spend anything so if she gets money for birthdays or just bits off grandparents etc she just hoards it all away!

Well, since it's her money, it's her responsibility then if she loses it...

Has she tried the Galaxy SII? I know a couple of people who dumped their 4S for it as they found the phone to be much better.

As for a cheap new 4S... I've no idea.

Be a responsible parent. Can YOU justify letting your 11 year old daughter spend that much on a flippin phone? Doesn't matter that its her money....she's 11!

Kids today....BRATS!!! almost all of em.

Yes, teach her now. If she is disciplined, saves up ALL her money, she can let daddy tell her what to spend it on?

Tbh I'm not sure what exactly is normal nowadays. I'm 27 now so when I was young mobile phones weren't really that common, I got mine about 15 I think, just a cheap £20 PAYG one. Same with Facebook and stuff, I'd have no idea what is 'accepted'.

Sorry if my post sound OTT fellas and OP of course, and didn't mean to go off topic with it either. I just think that at 11, regardless of saving up a child knows nothing about earning that amount of money and it teaches them nothing that they can save pocket money they don't earn and spend it on whatever they want without proper input from parents.....until she'll drops it, breaks it and apple refuse to compensate, then she'll expect daddy to sort it all out for her.
Lol, i'm ranting again, i guess, sadly it is a sign of the times....but i try and refute it all the same, sorry.
