My 939 system wouldnt boot last week, I went for a new cpu which solved it after trying everything else. Now it wont boot again. I dont know what the hells up with it and tbh i cant be bothered to start spend more money on a cpu if its just going to die again for some stupid reason.

Atm i have an ASRock dual sata2
amd 3800x2
ati x1800xt 256mb
2gig ram

Could i possible just rebuild to c2d instead of trying to spend more money on my 939 system?

Could you reccomend me what to buy please? I think i need new memory and a psu and a mobo with the new cpu?

£300max maybe?

4theres an asrock mobo that supports ddr1 and core 2 duo's, but ddr2 prices are very cheap at the moment, why dont you take a look in the members market with your budget i wouldnt buy anything brand new

Something like this perhaps:

FSP Sparkle Blue Storm 2 500W ATX2.0 PSU
£39.99
(£46.99)

Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
£81.99
(£96.34)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)
£61.99
(£72.84)

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail
£66.99
(£78.71)

Sub Total : £250.96
Shipping : £8.95
VAT : £45.48
Total : £305.39

for just under £200 you could get an e2140 with a ds3 board and 2gb geil 6400 c5. you would have spare cash for a new psu if you really wanted. i take it the gfx is pcie already?

I'd probably go with steve258's option but just to give you an alternative you could go for this and re-use your existing Ram. :)

(£72.84) £61.99
(£72.84)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £125.99
(£148.04) £125.99

Yes the grfx is pci-x and my psu is a seasonic 430w

Im really bugged as to why it wont boot atm im so ****** !

You said you tried everything else? What have you tried?

You can probably do without a new psu as long as you don't do massive overclocks and don't have lots of drives and peripherals.

That doesnt sound bad, i like the idea of using my existing ram. Do i REALLY need a new psu tho? 430w seasonic isnt enough?

I doubt id overclock it straight away. I just want a working pc atm !

When this happend last week i tried a new mobo, new psu, new ram and a new graphics card.

I bought a new cpu and it worked...Now it wont boot again, WHY? All i did was plug my slave ide drive in and pressed power, wont boot, took it out, wont boot ahhhhhhh.

The Seasonic should be fine but it was just in your original post you said you'd need a new PSU so I put one in. :)

I know it sounds cliche but have you tried resetting CMOS & remove battery?

Does your mobo give you any beep at start up?

Yeap, just fans spin up to full blast then stays like that. It started doing it a few times but it would normally work again on the next boot.

I dont know, somethings wrong, i just dont know what :(

If cpus gone again what can cause that?

I don't know exactly what would cause the CPU to go because there could be a few reasons including motherboard being dodgy and supplying the wrong voltage, general bad luck in getting two dodgy CPUs, power surges etc.

Could the elextric being turned off while my pc is plugged in and turned on cause this?

Because we are having work done in the kitchen and they turned the power off while i was trying to burn a dvd.

Its after that when it started playing up. It worked first time after this tho, then just died.

It is possible that turning the electricity off could do it damage, a little unlikely to be serious but still possible I guess. It would really be difficult to know without testing and how you'd go about that is way beyond my level of knowledge. :)

If possible have your PSU checked, it might be going and might be killing hardware (e.g. your CPU.) Seems unlikely but it's possible, the only way to know is to have the PSU checked with a multimeter and/or have it swapped out with another.

Same here.

Im just going to sell off what i can and put it towards a conroe system instead.

Use my laptop as a stop gap :(

I dont want to rebuild a new 939 system, might as well just make the step upto C2D instead of putting loads of money/effort into fixing this one :(

Thankyou for the help anyway.

I bought a brand new one but it will wouldnt boot. But then again i was probably testing it against a cpu that was already dead so i dismissed it.

So you recon i could go conroe with keeping my psu / ram

Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard £39.99
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)

Id only be running one sata hard drive and one dvd drive.

I can also add better ram / psu on later pay days if above would be ok!

Yep, you could go Core2Duo with those two parts, the motherboard accepts DDR Ram and PCI-E graphics cards as well as DDR2 for when you have more cash/need the upgrade. It is highly unlikely to overclock well but I'm assuming a stable system is your first priority. :)
