Cheapest WiFi + Ethernet Switch?

Hi there,

I'm basically after the cheapest reliable WiFi & Ethernet switch available. It's really only to provide WiFi to a log cabin in the garden. There's already a cable running from the main router (ASUS N66U) in the house to the PC in there.

Any recommendations? :)
 
A wifi and Ethernet switch? Not even certain that's a thing outside of a handful of multi-port powerline range extenders.

Just get a switch and an access point.
 
Sorry, I'd call it a router then, I just don't need it to do any routing :)

I'm not up to date on home networking devices as I generally work with the much higher end stuff, so not sure which cheap ones out there that will allow me to disable DHCP etc.

I really only need a WiFi AP with two ethernet ports / pass-through sort of thing. So I can unplug the cable going to my PC, into the AP, then get another cable from the AP back to the PC.
 
You want an access point that also has switch ports.

Could get a low end Asus router, then disable DHCP on it.


If your existing router is 192.168.1.1, then edit the DHCP server on that so it it only dishes out IPs in the range of 192.168.1.10 and over or sometihng.

Then set the new one as 192.168.1.2 (with DHCP disabled). Don't use the 'WAN' port on the second router. Just the switch ports..

I used this as a "switch" before when I was a student, you can disable the DHCP router and connect it to the LAN port of the TP-Link and it works fine.
 
While that is true there's a very finite number of IPs you can select if you actually want to be able to manage it. You're definitely going to want to be able to modify the wireless settings.
