HI,
currently have ethernet cable running into the livingroom feeding a squeezebox music streamer.

I want to use an Ipod Touch as a remote, so I want to plug in a wireless externder - or whatever? - in the livingroom.

Basically the extender is used in the same room as the Ipod, so Im not needing a mega powerful mega expensive unit.

Cheap n cheerful!

I've heard I could use any old wireless router as an extender?

Considering I can get a Belkin extender for about £30 from here, would I be as well getting one of those?

Thanks in advance.

My understanding is you simply turn off the dhcp of the router and removing any other functions it is running so it works the same as a repeater. People generally recommend the linksys equipment as customisable firmware is available too.

Thanks for the reply.

1 more question thanks.

Im on Virgin Media Cable.
As the router would be used as a REPEATER rather than a router, does it matter if its a adsl router?

Or does it have to be cable?

Looking for lowest cost solution.

Thanks

It does not matter what type of a router it was, as it will not require/be using the modem which is the main difference between the two types of router you have mentioned.
