Can anybody recommend an AGP card new or 2nd hand that will cope with a 20" widescreen monitor. I don’t play games at all. Its just gona be used for surfing the web.

The cheaper the better :D

Just find a graphics card which as much memory as possible, for those high resolutions I assume you're running at. S/H: 9800 Pro, 6600, 6800, something like that would do the job.

I'd try and pick up a 6800le quite a few knocking around and will suit your needs price guide £30-45 depending on spec / packaging / ability to unlock etc

It’s quite an old lowly spec as all it’s used for it web surfing and downloading.

AMD Athlon 2000+
512mb of cheapo ram
Nasty cheap pc chips mobo with on board graphics

Something as simple as a old 9700/9800 Pro would work wonders for that system. If you get the upgrading bug :D you can go up to a Barton Athlon (2800, 3000), maybe some money leftover to 1GB of the fastest RAM your PC can take (DDR 2700 or 3200 I assume) you'll have a half decent system.

I've got a 20" Widescreen (1680x1050) and I use a Nvidia 6200. Cost me under £20 and it handles stuff fine.

Like you, I don't play games and for Windows, Office, Web surfing, DVD (very good on a 6200 due to hardware acceleration of Hi Def content) etc it sails through all that.

The card it replaced was a 6800GT. Apart from the gaming aspect, theres no difference.

Just for surfing the web you might as well just use anything that can handle the res, what is wrong with the onboard?

My mate told me that on board graphics wouldn’t do widescreen as on board is the lowest of the low. Otherwise i would use it.

PC Chips M810 *Shudders*

Your talking DirectX5.0 hardware at best here, with a max 16 MB Video memory. It might do the res,

I built enough of those suckers when working for *evil online PC builder that I won't name* and thought they were sh*te then....

Get yourself an AGP model 6200. Sorted.

if you don;t play games and all u do is surf the net then get yourself a 6200 geforce. has pure video functions, very low power consumption, low heat output, passive cooling so no noise. full dx9 compliance with shadre model 3.0 support.

and its cheapo.

i got 1 and it even runs battlefield 2 at 1024x768 easily although i have most details turned down but texture detail is still high so the game looks good.

Went for a 19" widescreen in the end as it was only 130quid.

Just decided to try it without the card and it seems to work fine with the on board graphics. might get me a cheap card anyhow
