boring post alert.

Want a cheapo laptop for facetiming friends
browsing internet whilst sat on the sofa
watching youtube/netflix etc

Want something with a keyboard attached so tablets a no go.

is one of the generic chromebooks around the £200 mark the best choice?

or is everything around that price point absolute garbage?

Chromebook would do fine for all of the above, they don't really need much of a spec to run video calling. A used Windows machine will have a worn battery to contend with... And do you want to boot into Windows, wait for updates etc. just to do a video call with mates?

We have hundreds of Lenovo N42 Chromebooks in the fleet used for just this sort of thing, it's a fairly old model now, Celery N3160 CPU, 4GB RAM :p

I'd echo that sentiment I've being doing all that on a w10 laptop with a lowend celeron/atom n3350 thingy, a coda spirit, it will break no speed limits and you need to choose the right software not to waste those meagre resources but it was 100quid new, a chromebook being more optimized for low end hardware should breeze it, just find one with a good screen and keyboard and your set.
