I was just looking for a replacement active Hepa filter as the one thats in my vacuum has never been changed in 8 or so years.. Miele want £30+ for their active Hepa filters . There are some from China on ebay that look exactly the same for £3.99... Anyone tried a cheapo filter? I can't understand how one could be 10x the price of the other, it's just a filter.

I buy the cheaper third party bags, which seem to work fine, so i'm guessing the filters will be just as good, but thought I'd ask first as I know there are a few fellow Miele owners on here.

Just bought one yesterday, and they are on offer on Amazon for £19.89, which annoyingly meant I had to buy something else to qualify for free delivery.

Edit: As a sidenote, I would not buy third party, simply because I doubt the bags or filters have the same filtering performance. I bought the Miele due to having allergies and needing a good vacuum to remove any particles or fine dust, so skimping on what is an additional £10-20 a year seems to make no sense to me, considering the amount of money I spent to get the vacuum in the first place!

Thats a good point actually. £20 a year isn't bad, or £20 for another 8 years in my case :D. I just have a suspicion its basically the exact same product and hate paying extra for a name.

I'm also looking at getting either the turbo head for £50, or the turbo min for £25 as the standard brush head really struggles to remove pet hair from my rugs. My mums Dyson V6 has pitiful suction compared to my 2200w Miele, but it has a turbo brush head and wipes the floor (and rug) with mine. The turbo head and 2200w suction should improve performance a lot. I'm also betting the old filter is not helping if its clogged up inside.

This seems to be a genuine hepa filter for £16 delivered.

I got a genuine and non-genuine Miele charcoal HEPA filter off eBay, to my surprise the non-genuine one did in fact work just as well and I was using it specifically for hoovering up wood dust from DIY.

Maybe the genuine Miele one is rated for longer use. Either way it's handy to have cheap filters round for when you're vacuuming more heavy duty dust.

Thanks for your input. I have decided to just go for a cheap filter and see how it goes. I paid a bit more to get one from a UK seller, so £4.50 for the filter and £5 for 5 bags and the internal motor filter. It was costing way too much for all the genuine stuff and the bags worked out at £2.50 each, which is way too much when they just get dumped in the bin.

I have a Hepa filter in my air purifier so I think that should get rid of anything the vacuum misses.
