Hi all

I took my car to the garage the other day as the battery warning light had flashed on. They checked it and said battery and alternator was A OK! I would like to be able to test this myself in the future.

To check whether the alternator is charging the battery i guess all i need a multimeter? Can someone recommend one? Maybe link to ******s would be good.

Also what sort of current should someone check for? And how can you tell how much charge your battery has?

Many thanks

The best way to check a battery is test its ampage, we use a proper battery tester at work which does that, it also does an alternator check The alternator check is basically just a multimeter function, should read between 13.3v and 15v.
