This is the newest system I have decided on, think this is a pretty good setup. Just wanted everyone to check compatibility because i know jack and want to make sure when i put it all together it will work fine. Also if i have made any major mistakes in choices. Thanks. Will be buying this end of next week once wages clear in bank. I was going to go for the 4400+ and just buy cpu/motherboard/graphics and then upgrade the rest in another month. But my patience is terrible.

That better. Whats best change RAM to DDR or change motherboard to use DDR2. Don't know whats better.

Good motherboad, but if I were you I would go for the Dual x16 as it leaves more room for expandibility in the future..

These normally come WITH the motherboard, so I wouldn't bother.. But CHECK the motherboards package list (or a quick review) to double check first.

Personally I would go with at least a 580W these days, and Tagan, although a great make, are slightly pricey.. (and are you REALLY going to use the modular side of the PSU!?) Take a look at the Hiper Type-R's and the non modular version if u decide not to go down that route.

Again, Muskin is good stuff, but are you really going to use it? Are you going to OC the hell out of it?? If not, try something a little more conservative.. or at the least go for GeIL instead :)

What RAM do you suggest, do you mean 2GB is too much or wrong type. Should I go for 1GB instead.

Thanks that post was really helpful. Don't think i need more space i have another 120GB External Drive.

All AMDs currently use DDR. In the coming weeks they will be releasing a new socket, AM2, which will use DDR2. If you decide to wait for the new CPUs you'll need an AM2 mobo and DDR2 memory to go with it.

Bottom of post, asked for suggestions. Ddin't know if your were implying 2GB was too much or wrong type. Also I don't know the difference or best option so a suggestion would be nice. Also with the change of motherboard does that mean i can use DDR2 and whether that is better than DDR? So many questions.

Opps, only just saw your posts at the bottom.. I would suggest 2GB defo, as a LOT of games will struggle with 1GB, its just not enough any more :(

If your NOT going to overclock:
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 (GE2GB3200BDC) (MY-046-GL)

If you ARE going to overclock or dont mind spending a bit more:
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K) (MY-057-OC)

EDIT: and no DDR2 cannot be used with this CPU/MB combo... But tests have shown there is almost NO IMPROVEMENT at all in switching from 939 to AM2 with the same speed CPU.

2 GiB is a fine amount to have. Some newer games are requiring it for optimal performance.

If you go skt939 you'll need a skt939 CPU and DDR memory.
If you go AM2 you'll need an AM2 CPU and DDR2 memory.

AM2 is not showing to be a huge performance increase over 939 at the moment but it will be more future proof as 939 will be discontinued sooner or later. Expect 939 kit to drop in price when AM2 is released.

So maybe wait just for the price drop if anything. But if you think like that you will never buy anything, you will just always be waiting for something.

I have to disagree here, you don't need a huge 580W PSU for a rig like that. 530W is more than enough for that spec. I would also class Tagan as being in a league higher than Hiper as do many others. 530W Tagan is a very good PSU, I would keep it.

Again, I have to disagree. Geil Value RAM is more expensive than Mushkin, yet the Mushkin has better performance...keep the Mushkin! You don't have to be an overclocker to buy Mushkin ram.

That RAM is actually a poor choice for overclocking, as it is only PC3200 and won't overclock very well. PC4000 is what you want for overclocking. The above RAM is only good if you intend to run stock or use dividers when overclocking.

As above, the Muskin Enchanced kit is cheaper, has better timings so I would forget about Geil.

Don't mean to pick on you or anything mate, just some opinions :)

Fair enough... You're entitled to your opinion and me mine ;)

As for the OCZ, yeh that was just thrown in as an afterthought simply because GeIL dont make the Ultra-X PC4400 in 2GB pairs.. (or least not on OcUK)

Oh and I was also thinking about the future.. IF in the future he decides to shove in another 7900 GTX the 580W will take it fine.. whereas the 530W will be nearing it's limit..
