Looking to spend about £400 for a new mobo, cpu and graphix. I want it to last for a while (last machine lasted 3yrs) and I'm not big into o/c'ing. Not been around for a while so I'd appreciate peoples views on the following and whether or not its got some longevity :-

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
OcUK GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Asus P5K Premium/WiFi-AP Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Currently running an Asus P4C800-E Delux, P4@3Ghz. I'd like to run the quad at around the 3.2Ghz mark. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Matt

the cpu will be fine for some time unless you decide to go for the best scores in benchmarking.

the 8800GT's life will depend on your opinion on graphics and how quickly developers render it useless.

a p35 chipset MB will be a good choice for a MB if
1) you dont want 2 nvidia cards in sli, its a crossfire MB
2) you dont get 2 high end ati cards in crossfire as the 2nd 16x pcie slot runs at a slower speed meaning the more powerful the card the bigger the performance hit when compared to the same graphical setup with a MB that has both 16x pcie slots capable of running at 16x speeds

you may also want to consider a 3rd party cooler unless you already have one.

you may also need ddr2 ram as well (pc2-6400 is a good speed if you want to OC you cpu up to 3.6GHz)

Thanks for the advice. If I decided to go for the Nvidia card I guess it would be sensible then to look for a SLI capably board. Any recommendations. The only reason for looking at the 8800GT is that you read everywhere that its the best bang-for-buck card out there. On reviews, its seems to be on a par with most of the high-end ATI cards except for the X2.

I've been very happy with the Asus board so what would be an equivelent performance ATI board if I opted to stay with this mobo?
