The other option for a bit more future proofing would be to change the setup to a I7 950 as it's today's special with a Asus Sabertooth X58.

I would knock off the gtx 460 and wait till next after christmas.

Just use my X1950XTX for now. Would that work with the board?

Thansk,

Carl

thanks, I currently have no pc and i'm so itichy to get a new build going. It's been a while since my last build...see sig.

I beleive the i7 would last me a lot longer than the i5. Although i want something to be longer lasting than bang for buck, hope that makes sense.

To be honest your build was good, just needed a change of psu, and either get the cheaper 1GB GTX460 or spend the extra on the much faster 5870.

i've always stuck with Single GPU although 2 GPU and the I7 route might be better?

thanks again

Nah, i5 is faster than i7 for a gaming rig, the turbo boost is more aggressive.

and stick with a single gpu then, I only asked because the motherboard would need changing to one that ran both 16X pci-e slots at identical speeds if considering dual graphic cards.

sorry for going on....

if i was to wait and get a 570 would the system be good enough for that GPU?

Although the 460 is in the basket ready to buy!!!

the system is more than ready for ANY single Card, even the cards like the 5970 with two gpus built in to a single pcb will run perfect.

and there is the release of the 6950 and 6970 next week.
