Hi guys,

I am currently using an i5-2500k build and I would like to upgrade to a modern build.

The computer will be used for the usual office type work with digital and video editing thrown in and some battlefield 1 when it comes out. I have selected the items below with the intention of upgrading the graphics card to a 1080ti when it comes out and I will get another 16gb of ram later while leaving room for overclocking if needed.

As a side question, would it be possible for me to use a midi tower with this build instead?

Thanks!

If you are doing a bit of video editing then It would be worth going for a 5820k, it is very close in price at the moment. You lose a tiny bit of fps but gain so much rendering power, plus may outperform the 6700k when dx12 becomes better implemented.

definitely would be able to get all of that into a midtower, even a mico atx/ mini itx case! there is nothing there that really warrants a full tower case, a single 120mm aoi and single graphics card will fit in most compact cases nowadays.

I would suggest spending a little extra on the motherboard, there are a few good deals on ocuk at the moment. For example something like this would come with £55 cashback.

Looks good but have a good look at the NZXT Noctis if you like NZXT. It's newer with better interior design/airflow. You would need an external DVD for it, unless you use DVD so rarely that you can just open the side panel up and connect a cheaper internal DVD briefly. TeamGroup Dark Pro RAM 3200 has slightly better timings and is £10 cheaper.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies.

I have looked into the 5820k and I feel compared to the 6700k in terms of gaming performance I would rather stick with it as I feel with the video editing I can always do something else while it renders the work.

Seeing as I can now use a midi case instead I looked at the recommended Noctis 450 Matte Black Mid-Tower Chassis but I am not too keen on the red neon lights and I feel the Prodigy M MATX Cube Case is too compact for me.

I have looked at two other cases and would appreciate which would be better in terms of air flow when I start overclocking the 1080ti?

In terms of the ram you have recommended me different ones but I am unsure which one to get, I understand the more MHz the better in terms of fps so I am interested in which one out of the recommended would be best.

Again thank you all for your help so far it is very much appreciated. Apologies if I missed anyone.
