Building this for a friend. Want to spend this sort of amount, maybe a bit less. Look decent enough/ future proof for gaming? If possible to build a stronger Intel/Nvidia build for the same money, will consider. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

If you can, wait til 9th Jan when Intels new SB is out

If you cant then this would be Intel/NVidia option for equivalent cost, however note there is no SLi option where as your AMD route leaves xfire open

MSI GeForce GTX 460 HAWK "Talon Attack" 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE 3D Mark 11 £164.99
Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail £140.99

Double check the Samsung drive as on the website the 5200rpm and 7200rpm are labeled the same ;)

The build itself is solid, but personally Id go for a different case, either spend a bit more and get the 902, or imo less and get either the coolermaster HAF 922 or even less and get Coolermaster Storm Scout
I'd also change the PSU to the Antec 650W modular
The 5850 is a cracking card for its price, but if he's set on multi gpu the 6000 series scale much better, whilst a 6850 is slightly less in terms of performance now, 6850 CF would own 5850 CF, upto you/him though
As already mentioned ensure you buy the correct F3 (7200rpm)
Enjoy
