I'm not a general user of this forum, as you can undoubtedly see. I have never built a computer before, but after much research I have come up with a set-up that I think should work well for me. If anyone could comment or verify on any part of this set-up I would be greatly appreciative :)

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3
CPU: Intel i5-2500, 3.3GHz, 6MB Cache
GPU: XFX Radeon 6870
Mem: 2 x 2GB Corsair 1600MHz
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB, 7200RPM, 32MB
Drive: Optiarc AD-7260S-0B 24x SATA
PSU: OCZ 700W ModXStream
Case: Casecom MA-1199

Any help and or verification is greatly appreciated!

Cheers all :D

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You will want a 2500K processor if you want to overclock. The plain 2500 can be overclocked a little using the turbo multiplier but nowhere near as much as the 2500K.

A 700W PSU is bit of overkill for that system.

I intended on using a 500W PSU, but it was recommended that I use a 600-650W PSU for this system elsewhere, and this 700W one costed the same and was still of a known brand. How would you go about determining the wattage required? I've researched the GPU, and it's max wattage is supposedly about 255W and the CPU requires about 95W but I'm not sure about the other components.

I have little intention of overclocking, although the i5-2500k is only a couple quid more expensive it seems.

Thanks for your help dude!

If you have no intention of overclocking (and don't need features of Z68) get a H67 motherboard and a non i5 2500 or i5 2400.

As for PSU, depends on whether you will add in another 6870 at a later date. For a single card 500W will be plenty.
