Check My Final Spec Please!

Do you mean the standard stock Intel coolers can be mounted in any direction or ALL coolers for Intel CPUs can be mounted in any direction?

Well the standard Intel cooler for i3/i5/i7 sandybridge and previous i3/i5/i7 core duo etc, is a round shape with a fan on top blowing downwards.

There are four push pins set equal distances around this circumference to secure the cooler to the motherboard.

So as you can picture you can rotate the cooler and the four push pins will still line up with the holes.

Aftermarket heatsinks still use these four holes to clamp through, and can be rotated to face any direction, the only thing stopping fitment anyway you want would be components on the motherboard around the cpu socket that are tall in height (performance motherboards are covered in metal heatsinks in various shapes and sizes to cool the VRMs, chipset of the motherboard etc).

So whats the best direction to fit it in? With the CPU cooler's fan facing the front of the case, something like this:

I assume in this pic the CPU cooler fan is drawing in cold air (from the front) across the heatsink and the warm air from the heatsink is being expelled by the rear case fan?

Right, everything bar the graphics card has come.
Do I want to install the PSU with the fan facing up into the case, or down to the vent? I'm would have thought down but a lot of people seem to do it up? The screw holes line up either way.

edit: Also, this dust filter that came with the 690II, I'm guessing thats for under the PSU?

Fan faces down, there should be a filter too in the box inside the case.

The only reason to have it facing up is if the case is on deep pile carpet that can block the vents.

Oh, wait, the PSU dust filter - I've just discovered that there are filters on the outside but that PSU one seems to have holes to go over the rubber feet.. did you fit the PSU filter on the inside (where its impossible to get to) or outside?

/edit: Ignore, on further inspection the PSU filter CANT go on the outside :p.

Umm I'm guessing the these little hooks on the CPU socket should be *under* the metal bar that passes through it? It doesn't seem to close properly at the moment. Is is going to be possible to get them under the lever mechanism or am I screwed?

lift the lever and open the metal cage.

remove the plastic socket protector.

carefully place the cpu into the socket, it only goes one way, there are notches to line up.

close the metal cage and push the lever back under the hook, yes its tight.

apply some termal paste to the top of the cpu, a pea sized blob will do and spread around too nearly the edges of the cpu top, look carefully and you will see where the cpu heatspreader drops away at the sides, stop before this.

fit the venom.

Thanks stulid, it didn't seem to close properly!

edit: I'm sure its not sitting properly..

Those hooks are above the metal lever mechanism, it doesnt seem to be sitting properly, haven't tried the actual CPU yet, doesn't seem right.
