Off the back of my other thread ( http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18280143 ) I'm considering my options

Looking for a good upgrade regarding performance on Video conversion and as a general HTPC and main PC.

AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail

Corsair Hydro H50-1 High-Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/1155/1156/1366/AM2/AM3)

Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H AMD 880G (Socket AM3) DDR3 microATX Motherboard

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)

OCZ Agility Series 30GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-1AGT30G)

3x Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM (ST2000DL003)

Total :
£585.92

30GB SSD as boot, 3x2TB in RAID 5 for 4TB of storage space, use the onboard gfx.

Current spec is C2D E8200 2.66GHZ Wolfdale @ stock, 2GB DDR2, DS3-R, 500GB boot, 3x500GB in RAID5 storage, ATI 2400Pro.

Don't want to go any more than £600 all in, and need to have 4tb of storage available !

30GB is pretty close to the limit. If you can disable memory paging, that should save a few GB of space on the SSD, but even then I'm not sure you wont run into problems.

Dunno how much you can overclock on that board. the 1090T needs power.

I would spend an extra £5 for the H60 (with the free akasa fan), or go for the Antec Kuhler H2O 620.

Finally, between a 1090T and a 2500K for encoding, seems that 2500K wins.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor £173.99
1 x MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** £89.98
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) £79.99
3 x Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM (ST2000DL003) £58.99
1 x OCZ Agility Series 30GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-1AGT30G) £44.99
1 x Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £25.99
Total : £603.91 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Best read on what's best for your purpose between a Sandy or the 6 core thuban. The 2500K would overclock to reliable 4.2, 4.4GHz with that sort of cooler, maybe even higher (I would guess top would be 4.5, 4.6GHz allowed by mobo and cooler, but I wouldn't run that all day).
