For some games, and general all round family use. Would like to OC a little to 3.8Gb or 4Gb maybe?

Other motherboard options could be,
Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H AMD 785G (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard or the Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H AMD 785G (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard ?

But how would the cheaper motherboards do against the GA-MA790XT-UD4P?

I have a Scythe Kama Angle CPU cooler and a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 Toxic Edition PCI-Express Graphics Card to use with this build.

I have a Gigabyte Gigabyte GZ-X1 with a Scythe Kama bay and two case fans and a SilverStone LC13S case.

I am also wondering about i5 instead, but do wonder if a newer stepping will be out in a few months?

Well im more a AMD guy so if i was to go Intel i would buy Core i7

I don't no about a new stepping either on i5

my advice is either to go AMD 955 or if you can buy i7 920

Go for either of the intel options as both will outperform the 955 when it comes to gaming.
