I think This is a good Spec and everything is compatible with each other.

Anyone recommend any changes (although I feel its all fine an dandy as is at the moment) ? I wanna stick to £1050 or less.

On a side note a couple of non essential question wanting answered...

1. I assume all the compnents come with instructions on installation so I shouldnt get stuck ??

2. Will I be able to shove My current hard drive from My dell into this rig?? (it has XP on it, will it cause me to have a dual boot situation with vista on the new HD ??)

3. How long you reckon this rig will last until its as outdated as my Current Dell ??

Thanks In advance
Mark

Everything there is fantastic, though i would recommend a DS3 or P5NE-SLi and save yourself 100 pounds. They both overclock fantastic just depends whether you want intel or nvidia. I chose the nvidia in the end. The 680i is overkill imo

If you're going to overclock do yourself a favour and buy the E4300 instead of the E6300. It's higher multiplier means a lower default FSB meaning more room to clock up :)

Also make sure you're aware that that version of Vista you're buying won't allow you to upgrade motherboard without buying another copy.

Agreed, drop down to a P5N 650SLi, virtually no difference with the 680i. Then get yourself a tuniq tower or a scythe ninja to cool that CPU.

Reviews agree that the 650 gives you 95% of the performance on the 680. However the 680 has the all important bragging rights.

If you are not going SLI then the solid DS3 is a compelling solution.

And for overclocking ease the 4300 is massively sweet.

However these are niggles and haggling over pennies. Your spec is nice.

2. Will I be able to shove My current hard drive from My dell into this rig?? (it has XP on it, will it cause me to have a dual boot situation with vista on the new HD ??)

No what you need to do is set your old drive to be a lsave and the new one master.

The first hard drive (drive 0) will conatin the boot details and when you install vista to your new drive, it wont know about the windows xp installation on the slave drive. Plus XP wont boot as you are puuting it into a totally different machine anyway.

When you have both drives connected and being seen by Windows just copy all your documents across - word of warning though if you have set your "My Docuemtns" folder to be priavte in XP you wont be able to access the files through vista, so make sure that is not the case.

In a nutshell

1.. Make sure My Docs in XP is no set to "Priavte" and remove password to account.
2.. Install VISTA on new machine when built.
3.. Add old HD as slave
4.. Copy all your docs accross to the Vista Drive.
5.. Format the Old (WIN XP) drive
6. Set the Okd Drive as your Docs Storage and copy all the docs back across

Hope this helps

Thanks for suggestions, I decided to change to the E4300 due to easier overclocking and is pretty much on par with 6300 anyway once both overclocked.

Im going to keep th EVGA 680 Mobo mainly due for further upgrades down the line ..(may get SLI, so better safe than sorry)

BTW.. Should I get that WD IDE Hard drive or get the "This Week Only" SATA Hitachi drive ?

Edit ... Thanks Swordfish, that cleared up a dilemma i was having.

I just found out the Akasa Case doesnt come with any fans.

What, and how many, Fans do I have to buy for this setup ?

This is what I'm gonna order.

Added the Tuniq Tower
Changed to E4300
Added 2 Fans
Changed the PSU to the 620w version mainly for future proofing.
And changed that IDE HDD from my first post to a Sata HDD.

I'm all ready to order now, i just hope and pray to god it comes on Friday and arrives safely.

Out of curiosity, if you order and pay for a friday delivery (£10) and OcUK cant get it to you by then, is there a chance it could come on the saturday... or is it a wait untill monday ?

Cheers, i hope i'll enjoy aswell.

Its in the warehouse Queue now, hope it comes tomorrow :D

btw, i decided on the Mirage rather than the Eclipse, basically the same case so wouldnt cause any problems.

Just an update.

I got it all Working, for the most part....

Problems...

1. Couldn't find the hole to plug the Chassis Speaker into.
2. Couldn't be bothered to plug the front chassis sound inputs in.
3. Couldnt find the whole to plug the front chassis firewire(?) port into.
4. Does the 8800GTS allow you to srew it down with the screws you removed for the backplate to come off ?? my gts wouldnt go back far enough and thus covering the screw holes blocking them.
5. No way is that an easy to use case, took an hour navigating the front door off.
6. When the PC is turned off (Powered down) is there a blue light that is always on on the front of the mirage (or have i got a coulple of wires in the wrong way round) ??

AND THE BIGGEST PROBLEM OF THEM ALL ... (drum roll please)...

the DVD drive has a massive hole in the top of it, which in turn has pushed the metal into the drive tray preventing it from opening thus preventing me to install Vista, thus making the PC a waste of space at the moment...

.....end rant about Pc....

aaaaaargh

How annoying.

As to cards not lining up - just wrestle them into place. Mke sure your mobo is in correctly and there is nothing warped about your installation. The backplane where the ports come out can often catch and warp the whole thing.

The spacers and motherboard are exactly where they are supposed to be, and when i push the card it naturally just covers up the backplate screw holes, i tried wiggling, even removed twice to triple check, there was nothing to be done though, it just naturally covers up the damn wholes.

either the motherboard is not pushed right to the back of the case as it should be ( even though it is aligned with the spacers).

or

evga have put the PCIe slots in the wrong place lol ( i.e and inch out of place)

well it turns on...

cant get no further than that due to no drive with which to insert the vista disc.

At least everything is detected at the bios screen, says im running a 4300, a hard drive etc, etc. says the CPU is at 21 deg a the bios screen, room temperature id assume, right ??

back the 8800 quickly, will it get damaged over time, or within a few hours, if it doesn't get screwed to the rear of the case ?

and any makeshift solutions to get it to fit correctly without having to strip everything back out the case?
