It's been a while since I built my last PC and I could do with some reassurance regarding the parts I'm thinking about buying! Most of the parts are quite popular individually but I'm not sure if they are an optimum combination or whether any one component is holding the rest back.

Here it is:

Samsung SM-2253BW Aqua 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black (£164.49)

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB) - Retail (£140.99)

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (£135.11)

MSI P35 Neo2-FR Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£76.36)

Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU (£70.49)

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 64-Bit - OEM (66G-02141) (£65.79)

Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD6400AAKS) (£50.51)

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 Sound Card - OEM (30SB057000000)(£17.61)

Logitech S-220 2.1 Speaker System - OEM (980-000022) (£14.09)

Cherry G83-6105 PS2 Keyboard - Black (£14.09)

Edimax EW-7318USg 54Mbps Turbo USB 2.0 Network Adapter (£11.74)

Total : £898.64

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Phil

Couple of things I would change would be the motherboard to the P45/P43 range as this will give PCI-E 2.0 and a newer chipset.
The PSU is non-modular so you can't remove the cables not being used and helps keep the case tidy.

Perhaps get a gigabyte or Asus P5Q P45 mobo for that as above, and I can recommend the Corsair HX620 as a decent modular power supply, it's certainly a very popular choice and shouldn't have any problems powering your rig.

Asus P5Q all the way. Incredible motherboard in every aspect.

Re sound (as above): Stick with onboard or invest in a real proper sound card, that one you chose won't be worth it.

Thank you very much for the replies! I didn't realise the PSU was non-modular - I guess the Corsair HX 620W would be a better choice. Can I save myself £20 and get the Corsair HX 520W without risking anything? Should be enough right?

I've swapped the mobo as suggested too and dropped the soundcard.

Any other comments?

Thanks again! :-)

Any benefit to buying Vista Home Premium over Basic?

I think the differences are that the premium has

- Elegant Windows Aero desktop experience with Windows Flip 3D navigation
- Best choice for laptops with enhanced Windows Mobility Center and Tablet PC support
- Collaborate and share documents with Windows Meeting Space
- Experience photos and entertainment in your living room with Windows Media Center
- Enjoy Windows Media Center on TVs throughout your home with Xbox 360™ and other devices
