Hi guys, friend wants a build for 1080p gaming and to run the Rift. Budget is £600, which is tight, but I've come up with this so far. I'd go for a motherboard/cpu combo if I could find one on here that was cheaper.

How does this build look? And can anybody see anywhere I could shave off some extra pounds?

Thanks.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £700.16
(includes shipping: £12.30)

Also the case I'm not so sure about, last one I built used a Corsair Carbide 300R and I found that easy to use, it doesn't need to be flash, I'd rather a generic looking one that was nice to work with and had good access for cables than a flash one with grills and stuff.

From what I've read on HardOCP and other sites, the proposed GPU isn't up to it. The GTX 1060 and RX 480 are the bare minima, and even then they're not really good enough.

What does your friend have already? It may be that simply getting a GTX 1070 would sort her out.

Hadn't thought about 1060, interesting, similar price too. My friend needs a whole new build from scratch, but budget is £600....ish.

If the build is from scratch don't forget the costs of monitor, keyboard, mouse, and Windows. That's £200+ on top.

The only thing I'd say is generally speaking the K revision of processors tend to hold their value more due to the overclocking potential.
So in a few years time that £20 difference now might be worthwhile when you come to sell it on.
