Hi all,

My first post but have been hovering around forums for a good few years :)

I spent about £1400 on my last build and really should have had someone check over it. So this time im gonna ask you guys for some advice.

My budget is about £1200 and im a gamer.

I really want for the Corsair Obsidian 700 case and the Corsair Power supply.

The major question is - Do I buy another ATI 4890 (~ £100) to CF with the one i have at them moment or buy a new card. A new card will mean scrimping abit on the specs though.

And will this mobo give me true crossfire at X 16

Cheers all

If you resell your 4890 you should be able to get a 5850 in budget easily, or even better a 460
rest of spec looks fine, cant go too far wrong with the bundles

To be honest the 4890 is still abit of a beast I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't much slower then a GTX460 on stock. Sure the 460 will scale better in SLI and overclock better, but adding 100 pound to your machine to get duel 4890's will be unbeatable in the bang for buck area.

But remember 4890's have got a year left in them before your really due an upgrade to a DX11 card. So it's even get some massive performance now but with limited tech or bite the bullet now and invest in a 460 or 5850.

Both cards offer the best bang for buck at the moment.

4890 in crossfire will do fine in games, but it depends if you want directx 11 If you do then get a 5850 or better a 5870.

Sell the 4890 ( between £75-£95 depending upon spec) and buy a 5850 with the rest. The 460 is a good card but the 5850 is faster even if both cards are overclocked.

Motherboard spec says:

1 x PCI (32 bit)
2 x PCI-E 2.0 x16
2 x PCI-E 2.0 x16 (x8 Bandwidth)
2 x PCI-E x1

thanks for your input guys,

2 X 4890 is CF are almost as good as a GTX 295? As far as directX 11, i think ill buy a new card like a 5970 in a years time.

Will the mobo be any good for true crossfire dfour?

I will look at the 5850 benchmarks,

cheers guys

How do you work that out? As can be seen here the difference is negligible, and given the cheaper cost of the 460, that gets my vote, 1366 socket provides for both SLi and crosffire

Your own images show what I said to be true. I didnt say they where massivly faster I just stated a fact that the 5850 is the faster card.

Yes the board should be good for xfire at x16 speeds with 2 cards.

They should as they have the same rops and the 4870*2 has more shaders than the 5850 but at a much bigger power and heat cost.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help again, looking at some charts, I decided to buy another 4890 as there only £110 delivered new and to wait a year, sell them, and buy a 5970.

Saved myself about £250 - £300 and should get decent performance

Thanks again
