I'm looking to build a pc for the first time. It'll be mainly used for gaming and the internet. I only have a 19 inch monitor not some huge monster so am I correct in think 512mb on the gfx card would be a waste?

I'm hoping this build is upgradeable, crossfire etc.

Also I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know if there is anything I've totally missed.

I don't plan on doing any overclocking (not without a hell of a lot more research :p ).

Thanks in advance.

Im sooo embarassed! :o

there's a cheaper g-skill 5300 or there's a g-skill 6400 ram for approx the same price.
also i was told stick to like plextor/nec/some other one i cant remember for the optical drive. although i'm not sure if that was the person's personal preference or because it was good

I'd go for a Tagan or Seasonic PSU myself...

Dont know if anyone would agree but from preference id say they're better :)

Budget is kinda flexible but I was aiming for about a grand excluding monitor and peripherals. Money is there for improvements if the represent value in performance vs cost.

Only thing id suggest is either the Conroe E6700 (2.67ghz) or the X1900XT, but its still a great rig.. it just depends on what games you play really...

Dunno if you've decided on the monitor, but id go for the DELL 24" :D

Would change the RAM to Gskill though...

That looks really good to me as well :)

Well done :)

I agree, i was waiting for someone else to say something first though, i dont know much about RAM

But wouldnt he want to have GEIL or something instead of G.Skill as they're generally better for overclocking?

Not sure though

Think its unlikely I'll be trying to overclock anything for a while. Just thinking about building the thing is giving me a connery :p

If you're not going to overclock, id step up the Conroe to the 2.67ghz one, you dont have to but would give it a hell of a boost..

If not, id change the graphics card :)
