Just finished putting together the parts list for my first custom build. After revising my budget I realised I had a little more to play with than I thought so I put these parts on my list. Just wondering if all the components are compliant with each other as I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to compatibility. The Ram timings and whatnot can be a bit confusing

So here it is :

I'd be grateful if someone could give it the once over and let me know of any potential problems. Cheers.

you will need tripple channel memory in the x58 board to take full advantage of it Dual channel is for AM3 and I5, also you would have to be nuts to by a gtx285 at the moment ....nvida will be making price cuts soon to make their range compeat with ATI...so go for a new ATi or just hold off on the 285....all your money ofc just advise ;)

Cheers , could you link me some decent Ram and recommend an equivelant ATI card for about the same cash ?

Triple channel memory is Intels new high speed memory architechture. It is supposed to increase data throughput and therefore increase the speed at which your system will run. I haven't got a 1366 board so I don't know first hand, I'm sure some of the other guys will be able to tell you though. It means more money though I'm afraid! I was considering a 1366 setup, but I went for the 1156 instead. The 1156 boards use dual channel memory, but you can also get a quicker i7 (860) chip for a little bit more cash (£226).

The 800D is great for water cooling, pretty poor for air cooling (I did a LOT of reading up on the subject). I was considering the same one but went with the Coolermaster 840 in the end which is another great case and more suited to air cooling. Cases I think are one of the hardest things to choose, it's all down to personal preference.

I think the RAM channel business is how it's accessed, i.e. dual channel RAM has both channels accessed at the same time and triple channel all 3 at the same time. But I might be wrong... :(

I got a 5870 graphics card which pretty much seems to be the way forward at the moment.

Thanks a lot guys , much appreciated. It's all a bit of a learning curve for me at the moment. I'm used to buying branded PC's from the purple shirt brigade but fancied getting more involved and building my own after reading about and seeing some of the forum members builds. I reckon there has to be a lot more satisfaction in building a PC from scratch and having it running just how you want it.
